NYSEEHE International President Deborah McKeever rings NYSE opening bell for "Diabetes Alert Day"

New York, New York – March 18, 2008 – Tuesday, March 25th will mark the 20th anniversary of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Diabetes Alert Day. “Alert Day is a one-day call to action to encourage those at risk for developing type 2 diabetes or those with loved ones at risk to take the Diabetes Risk Test and, if they score high, to schedule an appointment to see their healthcare provider,” states the ADA.

Diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States.  Today, some 21 million  have diabetes and 54 million more are pre-diabetic and the numbers are rising.  Diabetes risk factors include being overweight, sedentary, persons with a family history of diabetes, and women who have had babies with a birth weight of greater than nine pounds.  Once considered an adult disease, today pre-diabetes is becoming prevalent in adolescents and children.

Pre-diabetes is a serious disease with identifiable risk factors.  When risk factors are managed through early detection and lifestyle interventions of physical activity and good nutrition, type 2 diabetes can be avoided and/or the onset of disease prolonged.  “Type 2 diabetes is at epidemic proportions in the U.S. even though simple changes in lifestyle have proven to have a profound effect on disease avoidance,” says Deborah McKeever, president of EHE International and chair of the Greater New York American Diabetes Association Board.  “EHE International is all about preventive medicine and it is for this reason that pre-diabetes risk management is a core patient component of our disease risk management program.”

In 2007, the ADA estimated the direct and indirect costs of diabetes in the U.S. at $174 billion—an increase of $42 billion over 2002 estimates.  “The ADA’s message needs to be heard, understood, and acted upon for our personal health and as part of our nation’s endeavor to reduce healthcare cost burdens associated with preventable chronic disease,” says McKeever.  “The public and corporate employers are urged to participate in Diabetes Alert Day on March 25th.  Individuals can do so by learning the facts, personal risks, and by speaking with their healthcare providers; and employers can become advocates through on-site campaigns and through employee communications.  Our collective efforts can have a dramatic impact to the good health for all.”

EHE International and Irvine Internal Medical Group enter partnership agreement for preventive healthcare services

New York, New York - December 20, 2007 - EHE International is pleased to announce that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Irvine Internal Medical Group of Southern California for the delivery of employer-sponsored employee preventive healthcare services.

"Employers are increasingly recognizing clinically-based preventive health care programs as a best practice for the assessment of employee health and the identification of disease and drivers of risks, and as the best means to controlling future healthcare costs associated with preventable disease," says Deborah McKeever, president of EHE International.  "According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, 75 percent of total annual healthcare costs are a result of chronic disease, most of which is preventable. The reversal of escalating healthcare cost trends is absolutely dependent on a cultural shift from one of treatment to one of prevention."

"This partnership expands our national preferred physician network and meets the needs of our growing patient base in Southern California, specifically," says McKeever. With its preventive medicine specialty and its excellent reputation, the Irvine Internal Medical Group is representative of the type of premier physician practices that comprise EHE's national network."

"Our two entities have a longstanding commitment to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease," says Dr. Andrew Siskind who is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Geriatric Medicine. "IIMG focuses on providing leading edge preventive medical care with compassion. The EHE program allows us to be proactive with patients in the prevention and early detection of disease when physician intervention is optimal for a positive affect on patient change management. We see our partnership with EHE International and its approach to preventive medicine as a perfect match."
